Been quiet here in the den these past few weeks. With convention season over (at least for me), I've had to settle back into the desaturated work/sleep routine that often accompanies the Autumn months.
That being said, I did get a chance to be part of something pretty spectacular recently. My friend Manda and Errol roped me into participating in a live theater/escape room event that they helped put together called "A Night At The Speakeasy"
Set to the theme of a prohibition era mobster juice joint, all the familiar elements of an escape room (puzzles, riddles and a ticking clock) were spiced up with the inclusion of live actors all playing the parts of characters that fit in with the setting. Bar floozies, wise guys and colourful performers were placed throughout the venue for all the participants to interact with. It was a swinin' good time!
Manda even convinced me to join the act as a bouncer. Functionally I was little more than a locked door that players just needed a specific key (or as the case was, the right coloured poker chip) to get past, but I had fun playing with the role. Inspired by all of the fantastic performances the actors were showing off during the event, I tried my best to put my own spin on the gangster/muscle character. Manda even gave my character a name. Charles. Charles the Bouncer.
I've only really just begun to explore Escape Rooms around the city, but I felt pretty fortunate to be a part of this one as it seemed like most people enjoyed it!
